Petland’s Adopt-A-Pet℠ Program

Petland’s Adopt-A-Pet℠ program has helped families welcome more than a quarter-million homeless pets in the past decade. The program keeps growing as new Petland stores open and join this community-focused effort that connects people and pets.

Petland Pet Counselors partner with local animal shelters, rescue groups, and community members to find homes for homeless pets. They help place dogs, cats, kittens, and small animals with families ready to provide love and care. Petland store operators use their highly visible display windows to feature adoptable pets and attract potential adopters. This local visibility helps more animals find lasting homes.

The Adopt-A-Pet℠ program benefits both animals and community organizations. Since 1998, Petland stores have helped over 270,000 pets find homes. That includes 59,945 dogs and puppies and 212,534 kittens and cats. Many stores also donate funds and organize local fundraisers to support animal welfare groups. Petland believes in doing the right thing for pets, customers, and communities. Each location also supports programs that teach responsible pet ownership and care.

Petland ensures every Adopt-A-Pet receives dedicated attention and essential veterinary care before finding a new home. Each pet receives a flea treatment, deworming, and their initial vaccinations to help support a healthy start. A local Petland health warranty is typically included to provide families with peace of mind as they welcome their new companion. Petland also tests all kittens and cats for feline leukemia prior to adoption to protect the health of both the pets and their future families. Some Petland locations complete spay or neuter procedures before adoption, while others provide substantial discounts or certificates redeemable at trusted local veterinary clinics. These steps reinforce Petland’s ongoing commitment to animal wellness and responsible pet ownership.

Every Adopt-A-Pet goes home with a Pets for a Lifetime℠ Resource Kit, which helps families care for their new pet. Many Petland locations also microchip adopted pets and register them in a national database. This step gives families a better chance of reuniting with a lost pet in the future.
